St David’s Day – Mass choir concert

On St David’s Day we are starting the 2026 concert season with a cracker – or even better, three crackers -when mass choir concerts return to their valleys heartland.Poster for joint concert of 3 joint choirs

Join us for any of our upcoming ‘Together in Harmony‘ event, and a unique opportunity to see almost 100 voices joining forces on stage.

We will be singing with Aber Valley Male Choir and Rhymney Silurian Male Choir, in preparation for a larger 13 choir mass concert at Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral in June. All three choirs were keen to present a similar experience for local supporters unable to travel to Merseyside.

The concerts take place as follows:

Saturday 28th February, 19:00 – All Saints church, Ebbw Vale

Friday 27th March – St Helens church, Caerphilly

Saturday 18th April – Idris Davies school, Abertysswg

“Our concert in Ebbw Vale will be a fitting way to get everyone in the mood for St David’s Day”,
said Beaufort Male Choir’s Musical director Craig James.

“These concerts provide an unmissable opportunity to witness Welsh male choral singing at its
powerful and sensitive best”, said J Geraint Evans BEM, Aber Valley Male Voice Choir’s Musical
Director and the current longest continuously serving conductor of the same male choir in the UK.

“The repertoire will vary from the Mersey beat era to rousing Welsh hymns, from moving classical
pieces to West End musicals”, said Iestyn Harding, the Musical Director of Rhymney Silurian Male
Choir.

“As well as being a key component of our living heritage, choirs continue to play a crucial role in
keeping our communities vibrant”, said Paul Newman, Chairman of the Welsh Association of Male
Choirs, and Blaenau Gwent resident. “To choristers, the regular attendance at weekly rehearsals
help combat loneliness, establish new friendships, enhance health and well-being, and provide
opportunities to learn new skills and show them off in public. Our supporters are provided with
opportunities to volunteer, and a spur to go out often on dark, wet winter evenings”.
